Introduction
------------
The PCAN-Adapters/Interface cards allows the connection of a CAN bus to a interface of
an IBM compatible PC. With the help of this devices, any PC can be linked to a
High-speed CAN (HS-CAN) and/or to a CAN-FD Network.
(depending if the used CAN Interface support CAN-FD)

The provided drivers, the PCAN-Basic API, and the PCAN-View CAN bus Monitor software
are part of every PEAK-System Technik CAN PC Adapter/Interface. It is not allowed to use
any of this Software with a non PEAK-System CAN Hardware. If you not sure if you own a
original PEAK-System CAN Interface, or a official OEM Version, please contact us.

The PCAN-View is the feature-reduced version of the larger software packages PCAN-Explorer
(CAN-Analyzer). These Software can be aquired separately. A 30 Day Trial is available on request.

System Requirements
-------------------
The System Requirements are depending on the used CAN PC Interface.

- A free USB port (USB 1.1, USB 2.0 or higher) at the PC or at an USB hub connected
to the PC (please always external supply when using USB Hubs)
Or a PC Interface socket like PCI, PCIe, ExpressCard, PC104 etc.

- Operating systems: Windows (Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10) and Linux

Contains API definitions for several development environments,
interface-DLL, and sample projects that demonstrate how to use the
    PCAN-Basic API.

\PLIN-API (only PCAN-USB Pro FD and PCAN-USB Pro)
Contains API definitions for several development environments,
interface-DLL, and sample projects that demonstrate how to use the LIN API.

\PCAN-View
Contains a simple CAN Bus monitor for Windows. Support CAN2.0A/2.0B and CAN-FD
(CAN FD is only supported by CAN FD compatible Interfaces)

Installation under Windows
--------------------------
We recommend that you setup the driver before connecting the CAN Interface to the
computer for the first time.

> Do the following to setup the driver:

1. Please make sure that you are logged in as user with administrator
privileges (not required for normal use of the CAN Interface later on).

2. Start the driver setup program PeakOemDrv.exe.

3. Follow the instructions of the setup program and install the driver for
    the CAN PC adapter/interface.

Tip:
During this procedure you can additionally select to install the CAN
    monitor PCAN-View for Windows.

> Do the following to connect the CAN adapter/interface and complete the
  initialization:

1. Connect the CAN-USB adapter to an USB port of your PC, or plug in, if you bought a
CAN-Interface card, the card into a free slot in your PC. If you use a PCIe
interface, please be sure that you do not use the graphic PCIe slot if possible.
ATTENTION: Always switch OFF the PC and unplug the power supply cable BEFORE you open
the housing of your PC to install a CAN card into a PCI/PCIe/ISA/PC104 etc. slot

2. Start your PC again. After the start up, Windows reports that new hardware has been
detected and possibly starts an installation wizard. This depends on the used Windows
version. If applicable, confirm the steps for driver initialization.

After the installation process is completed successfully, on USB CAN Adapters, the LED is illuminated.
To Test if the driver and the device are installed succesfully, please run the PCAN-View Software
and check if your CAN Interface / Adapter is shown in the connection dialog.
